It may not quite be a case of the “Bawdy Under the Bed” legend playing out in real life, but New York police are investigating the death of a man found unconscious with a head injury under a mattress at a hotel near the Empire State Building.

Officers were called to the Hilton Garden Inn on West 35th Street around 4 a.m. on 18 May 2015 and found an unresponsive man, who appeared to be in his 30s, who had apparently suffered trauma to the back of his head, The man was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, and investigators and medical examiners are working to determine how he died.

The man was part of a group of people seen entering the hotel earlier, police said. When others in the group were seen running out of the hotel around 4 a.m., police were called. Officers said there had been two noise complaints about the room before they discovered the victim.
